MLS: NYCFC trade D Tony Alfaro to Galaxy for GAM

New York City FC traded defender Tony Alfaro to the L.A. Galaxy on Tuesday in exchange for up to $500,000 in general allocation money (GAM).

NYCFC are guaranteed $125,000 in GAM this season and could receive another $375,000 if certain performance metrics are met.

NYCFC signed Alfaro as a free agent in the offseason, and he appeared in seven matches overall, starting 4 of 6 MLS contests.

“We would like to thank Tony for his contributions to the Club,” New York sporting director David Lee said in a release. “Since his arrival Tony’s professionalism and leadership played an important role on the squad. We wish Tony all the best in Los Angeles.”

Alfaro has played in 74 career MLS matches (46 starts) for the Seattle Sounders (2016-18), D.C. United (2021-22) and New York. He has one career goal and two assists.
