Minnesota United acquired defender Jefferson Diaz from Colombia’s Deportivo Cali on Monday.

The 23-year-old Colombian is under contract through 2027 with a club option for 2028. He will occupy an international roster slot.

“Jefferson has an interesting physical profile we believe adds strength and additional options as we bolster our backline. We look forward to welcoming Jefferson to Minnesota this summer and seeing him represent MNUFC,” sporting director Khaled El-Ahmad said in a release.

Diaz has recorded eight goals and five assists in 102 professional matches in his native Colombia, suiting up for Real Cartagena (2017-21), Valledupar (2022) and Deportivo Cali.
