FC Cincinnati named Pat Noonan as their new head coach on Tuesday.

Noonan is taking over an FC Cincinnati club that limped to a 4-22-8 record last season. The club relieved head coach Jaap Stam of his duties on Sept. 27 and named Tyrone Marshall as the interim coach.

Noonan, 41, spent the previous four seasons as an assistant coach with the Philadelphia Union. The move reunites Noonan with FC Cincinnati general manager Chris Albright, who previously served as the technical director of the Union.

“We are proud to introduce Pat as the new head coach of FC Cincinnati,” Albright said. “He has demonstrated a track record of coaching success and we are excited to bring his leadership to FC Cincinnati.”

Noonan also was an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Galaxy and United States men’s national team.

“It’s an honor to be named the head coach of FC Cincinnati,” Noonan said. “Thank you to Chris (team president), Jeff Berding (team CEO and controlling owner), Carl H. Lindner III and the ownership group for putting their faith in me. I’m thrilled to take on this opportunity at FC Cincinnati and to get started.”

Ernst Tanner, the Union’s sporting director, complimented Noonan for his work ethic during his time with the team.

“Pat has done an incredible job during his time with the Union and has been an important piece to the team’s recent successes,” Tanner said. “His tactical coaching style and investment in his players have set him up for a successful future. He has our appreciation for the work he has done here and wish him the best in Cincinnati.”
