MLS: Dynamo adds F Amine Bassi from France’s Ligue 2

The Houston Dynamo moved to boost their scoring prospects Monday, signing forward Amine Bassi in a move that makes the France native the latest component of the team’s roster overhaul.

Bassi, 25, is the seventh player the Dynamo has signed to their first-team roster this offseason after the club went 10-18-6 last season and missed the playoffs for the fifth consecutive season. He is signed through the 2024 season with club options for 2025 and 2026.

Bassi has played sparingly over the past two seasons with FC Metz, which was relegated to France’s Ligue 2 this season. Bassi, who moves to MLS on a full transfer from Metz, also went out on loan to Barnsley in the English Championship in 2021-22, scoring two goals with five assists in 15 games there.

After starting his career with AS Nancy-Lorraine, Bassi scored 26 goals with 17 assists in 129 games from 2016-21.

“Amine is a creative attacking player with the potential to make a significant impact to our team this season,” Dynamo general manager Pat Onstad said in a release. “His versatility to play different positions makes him a valuable addition to our roster and, at 25 years old, we are getting a player entering the prime of his career.”

Bassi has represented Morocco at the U-20 and U-23 levels.
