Charlotte FC announced the departure of midfielder Scott Arfield to English third-division side Bolton Wanderers on Friday.

Arfield, 35, played in 27 matches (six starts) over two seasons with Charlotte and tallied two goals, both in 2023.

“Scott was influential in helping the club reach the playoffs for the first time and was a top professional throughout his time here in Charlotte,” general manager Zoran Krneta said in a release. “Everyone at the club thanks Scott for his contributions to Charlotte FC and wishes him well on his return to the UK.”

A former Canadian international who was born in Scotland, Arfield previously played for Scotland’s Rangers (2018-23) and for England’s Burnley (2013-18) and Huddersfield Town (2010-13) before coming to MLS.
