The Chicago White Sox promoted prized outfield prospect Braden Montgomery from Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday.
Montgomery, 23, was acquired in the December 2024 deal that sent left-hander Garrett Crochet to Boston. MLB Pipeline ranks Montgomery as the No. 2 prospect in the White Sox’s system and No. 21 among all major league prospects.
He will make his debut Tuesday night against the visiting Atlanta Braves, batting sixth and playing right field.
The switch hitter is batting .314/.422/.548 with 10 homers and 41 RBIs in 56 games between Double-A Birmingham and Charlotte this season.
The Red Sox drafted Montgomery in the first round (12th overall) out of Texas A&M in 2024.
The White Sox also recalled left-hander Joe Rock from Charlotte, optioned outfielder Rikuu Nishida and right-hander David Sandlin to Charlotte, and transferred outfielder Austin Hays to the 60-day injured list in corresponding moves.
