Francisco Lindor, Brandon Nimmo and Mark Vientos each homered and Luis Severino recorded a season-high 10 strikeouts over six scoreless innings as the visiting New York Mets beat the Chicago Cubs 5-2 to win the three-game series on Sunday.

DJ Stewart and Harrison Bader had two hits apiece for New York, which has won 10 of its last 13 games. Severino (5-2) allowed three hits with zero walks.

Mets closer Edwin Diaz was ejected during a foreign-substance check before throwing a pitch in the ninth inning. Drew Smith entered and allowed a two-out single before Jake Diekman struck out Patrick Wisdom for his third save.

Chicago trailed 4-0 in the seventh inning before closing the gap on Christopher Morel’s two-run homer against Dedniel Nunez. The 420-foot blast was Morel’s 15th homer this season and second in as many games.

New York began the scoring with three runs in the third inning against Javier Assad (4-3). Bader doubled with one out and scored on Lindor’s homer to left-center field. The home run was Lindor’s 13th this season.

Nimmo followed by extending his hitting streak to nine games with a solo blast for his 11th homer this season and fourth in his last six games.

Assad was replaced by Keegan Thompson after loading the bases with one out in the fifth inning. After Bader scored on J.D. Martinez’s groundout, Pete Alonso grounded out to end the inning.

Assad gave up four runs on seven hits over 4 1/3 innings. He walked one with zero strikeouts.

Chicago had two runners on with no outs in the sixth inning, but Severino struck out Michael Busch and Cody Bellinger before Seiya Suzuki flied out to center field.

The Mets added an insurance run on Vientos’ one-out homer in the eighth inning against Tyson Miller. Vientos snapped an 0-for-14 skid with the 451-foot blast, his seventh homer this season.

Mets outfielder Starling Marte missed the game due to right knee soreness and is listed as day-to-day.
