The Los Angeles Dodgers selected the contract of outfielder Stefen Romero from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Wednesday after infielder Hanser Alberto went on the paternity list.

It is Romero’s first stint in the major leagues since 2016 with the Seattle Mariners. The 33-year-old spent the previous five seasons with two separate teams in Japan.

Romero, a former 12th-round pick by the Mariners in 2010, batted .195 with a .549 OPS and four home runs with 17 RBIs in 94 games with Seattle from 2014-16. He was batting .270 with a .797 OPS at OKC, with three home runs and 21 RBIs in 24 games.

Alberto, 29, was batting .242 with one home run and four RBIs in 34 games for the Dodgers. Over seven major league seasons, he is a .274 hitter with 18 home runs and 110 RBIs over 419 games with the Texas Rangers (2015-18), Baltimore Orioles (2019-20), Kansas City Royals (2021) and Dodgers.

To make room on the 40-man roster for Romero, infielder/designated hitter Edwin Rios (hamstring) was placed in the 60-day injured list.
