MLB: Spring training roundup: Nationals crush Mets 14-0

The Washington Nationals clubbed five home runs, including Nelson Cruz’s grand slam, and Erick Fedde pitched 4 2/3 innings of shutout ball in a 14-0 rout of the visiting New York Mets in West Palm Beach, Fla.

The Nationals slugged three of their homers in an eight-run second inning, including Cruz’s slam. Keibert Ruiz went 2-for-3 with a homer and three RBIs. The Nats pounded out 20 hits.

Fedde struck out five and gave up just two hits.

Taijuan Walker got roughed up for six runs on six hits in 1 1/3 innings for the Mets.

Cardinals 7, Marlins 0

Steven Matz gave up no runs on two hits with five strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings as St. Louis blanked host Miami in Jupiter, Fla. Darlin Moquete went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Cardinals.

Phillies 5, Pirates 1

Kyle Schwarber and J.T. Realmuto drove in two runs apiece as host Philadelphia beat Pittsburgh to improve to 8-1 in Clearwater, Fla. Realmuto is hitting .371 on the spring. Zach Eflin earned the win, giving up one run on four hits with seven strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings.

Braves 1, Rays 0

Seven Atlanta pitchers held visiting Tampa Bay to just one hit and Matt Olson delivered the game’s only run with a two-out double in North Port, Fla. Olson and Ozzie Albies had two hits apiece for the Braves.

Red Sox 10, Twins 6

Ten different batters had one hit each as Boston used a seven-run sixth inning to topple visiting Minnesota in Fort Myers, Fla., home to both teams. Abraham Liendo drove in three runs and Ronald Rosario two for the BoSox. The Twins got home runs from Byron Buxton and newcomers Carlos Correa and Gio Urshela.

Tigers 5, Yankees 3

Miguel Cabrera went 3-for-3 with a three-run home run to lift visiting Detroit over New York in Tampa, Fla. Cabrera’s homer went 413 feet. Akil Baddoo also homered and starter Matt Manning gave up one run on five hits in 4 1/3 innings for Detroit.

Blue Jays 2, Orioles 1

Bo Bichette drove in the winning run on an infield hit in the fifth inning for host Toronto to top Baltimore in Dunedin, Fla. Toronto’s Alek Manoah gave up an unearned run in 4 2/3 innings for the no-decision. The Orioles scored their only run on a throwing error by Bichette.

Reds 12, Mariners 9

Brandon Drury hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning to lead Cincinnati past Seattle in Goodyear, Ariz. Allen Cordoba’s steal of home sparked the Reds’ decisive five-run rally in the eighth.

Rangers 11, Cubs 5

Mitch Garver had an RBI single and a two-run double to lead Texas past Chicago in Surprise, Ariz. The Cubs’ Cameron Cauley had two hits and three runs.

White Sox 9, Padres 6

Leury Garcia, Craig Dedelow and Xavier Fernandez homered for Chicago in a victory over San Diego in Peoria, Ariz. Padres starter Blake Snell allowed three runs on five hits in four innings.

Brewers 5, Royals 4

Adrian Houser fired six shutout innings to lead Milwaukee to a win over Kansas City in Phoenix. Logan Porter had two of the Royals’ four hits, including a two-run double.

Diamondbacks 3, Guardians (ss) 1

Jean Walters’ seventh-inning double broke a tie and led Arizona past a Cleveland split squad in Phoenix. Guardians starter Aaron Civale struck out four while yielding one run and one hit in three innings.

Giants 7, A’s 7

Jacob Heyward’s two-run double in the bottom of the ninth capped a three-run rally that lifted San Francisco to a tie with Oakland in Scottsdale, Ariz. Elvis Andrus and Chad Pinder each had two hits and two RBIs for the A’s.

Rockies 10, Guardians (ss) 3

Charlie Blackmon and Dom Nunez each had three hits as Colorado crushed a Cleveland split squad in Scottsdale, Ariz. The Guardians’ Will Benson homered, tripled and singled.

Dodgers 5, Angels 0

Bobby Miller pitched three scoreless innings to help the Los Angeles Dodgers blank the Los Angeles Angels at Dodger Stadium. Trea Turner and Mookie Betts collected two hits apiece for the Dodgers.
