MLB: Reports: Rays finalizing deal with reliever Phil Maton

The Tampa Bay Rays are finalizing a deal with free agent reliever Phil Maton, multiple outlets reported Saturday.

The 30-year-old right-hander was 4-3 with a 3.00 ERA, 10 holds and two blown saves in 68 appearances out of the Houston Astros’ bullpen in 2023.

Maton is 16-12 with a 4.25 ERA and two saves in 344 games (one start) over seven seasons with the San Diego Padres (2017-19), Cleveland franchise (2019-21) and Astros (2021-23).

Maton has struck out 398 batters and walked 136 in 347 innings.
