The Los Angeles Dodgers will part ways with hitting coach Aaron Bates, multiple outlets reported Friday.

Bates, who has been one of the Dodgers’ two hitting coaches along with Robert Van Scoyoc, failed to reach terms on a new contract with the club, the reports indicated.

A former third-round draft pick in 2006 by the Boston Red Sox, Bates has been in the Dodgers’ organization since 2014 when he played his final season in the minor leagues. He became a coach for the organization at the rookie league level the following season.

Bates, 42, advanced to major league assistant hitting coach in 2019 and was promoted to co-hitting coach for the club in 2023.

The Dodgers struggled on offense for long stretches in the second half of both the 2025 and 2026 seasons. With an All-Star lineup, Los Angeles scored 295 runs after the All-Star break this past season, which was 11th in the major leagues. Their 77 home runs in that time frame were tied for 11th in the league.

After winning two consecutive championships, the Dodgers advanced past the Atlanta Braves in the National League Divisional Series before being swept out of the NL Championship Series in four games by the Milwaukee Brewers.

Los Angeles is a finalist for the Silver Slugger team award in the NL, along with the Brewers, Chicago Cubs and Washington Nationals. The winner will be announced on Nov. 17.

Bates played in just five games in the major leagues, going 4-for-11 (.364) for the Red Sox in 2009. Raised in Santa Cruz, Calif., Bates was a .278 hitter (77 home runs, 358 RBIs) in 735 minor-league games over eight seasons (2006-14).
