The Cincinnati Reds acquired third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes from the Pittsburgh Pirates for left-hander Taylor Rogers and a minor league infielder on Wednesday.

Hayes, 28, is a strong defensive player who batted .254 with 39 homers and 212 RBIs in 576 games with the Pirates over parts of six seasons. He won the National League Gold Glove for third basemen in 2023.

This season, he is hitting .236 with two homers and 36 RBIs in 100 games.

Hayes is in the midst of an eight-year, $70 million extension that runs through 2030.

Rogers, 34, is 2-2 with a 2.45 ERA in 40 relief appearances this season. He is set to become a free agent following the season.

Rogers was an All-Star for the Minnesota Twins in 2021 and twice has recorded 30 saves in a season. He is 30-36 with a 3.28 ERA in 549 career relief appearances with the Twins (2016-21), San Diego Padres (2022), Milwaukee Brewers (2022), San Francisco Giants (2023-24) and Reds.

Pittsburgh also received minor league shortstop Sammy Stafura from the Reds. He was a second-round choice in the 2023 draft and is rated as Cincinnati’s No. 9 prospect by MLB Pipeline and Baseball America.

Stafura, 20, is batting .262 with four homers and 48 RBIs in 88 games at Single-A Daytona Beach.
