Pittsburgh Pirates third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes is headed to the 10-day injured list due to low back inflammation.

In corresponding moves Monday, the Pirates recalled right-hander Hunter Stratton from Triple-A Indianapolis, selected the contract of outfielder/first baseman Billy McKinney from Indianapolis and designated right-hander Ryder Ryan for assignment.

Also, Pittsburgh returned outfielder Joshua Palacios from a rehab assignment (hamstring), reinstated him and optioned him to Triple-A.

Hayes, 27, went 0-for-4 in each of his past three games for the Pirates. In his fifth major league season, all spent with Pittsburgh, Hayes is batting .233 with four home runs and 25 RBIs over 96 games.

Hayes is a career .258 hitter with 37 homers and 176 RBIs in 476 games since breaking into the big leagues in 2020. He won a Gold Glove Award in 2023.

McKinney has yet to play in the major leagues this season after the Pirates purchased his contract from the New York Yankees last December. The 29-year-old is batting .285 with five homers and 18 RBIs at two minor league levels this year.

Stratton, 27, has pitched in 34 games for Pittsburgh in his second season at the major league level. The reliever has gone 2-1 with one save and a 3.68 ERA.

Ryan, 29, gave up three runs on four hits in 2 2/3 innings of relief Sunday in a 10-3 loss to the Seattle Mariners. In his first season with the Pirates, he is 1-0 with a 5.66 ERA in 15 appearances out of the ‘pen.
