MLB: Orioles’ Dylan Carlson homers to down former club Cardinals

Date:

Dylan Carlson drilled a three-run home run against his former team and the Baltimore Orioles have a three-game winning streak for the first time this year, defeating the visiting St. Louis Cardinals 5-2 on Monday afternoon.

Charlie Morton put together his best start from the mound this season by working six innings as the Orioles began a six-game homestand with success. Ryan O’Hearn provided three hits and Jackson Holliday joined Carlson with two hits.

Pedro Pages homered for the Cardinals, who had a three-game winning streak snapped. Nolan Gorman had two of the team’s four hits.

Carlson, an outfielder who played for St. Louis from 2020 through part of 2024, entered the game with four hits in 16 games since joining Baltimore. He homered for the second game in a row.

Morton (1-7), who has been sent to the bullpen after massive struggles during the first month of the season, limited the Cardinals to two runs on four hits. He struck out five and walked two.

Morton was making his seventh start and 13th appearance. The Orioles were 0-12 in games he pitched until Monday.

Felix Bautista, the third reliever used following Seranthony Dominguez and Yennier Cano, worked the ninth for his eighth save while notching two strikeouts. The Orioles had lost their previous eight home games.

Erick Fedde (3-4) took the loss, with three of the five runs allowed being charged as earned across his five-inning stint. He gave up seven hits with one walk and five strikeouts.

The Orioles struck for a run in the first inning on Gunnar Henderson’s groundout. Holliday’s third-inning single drove in Carlson.

Carlson’s blast came in the fourth inning to push Baltimore to a 5-0 lead.

The Cardinals responded with Pages’ two-run shot in the fifth.

The Orioles won for the first time in three home games under interim manager Tony Mansolino.
