Amed Rosario drove in two runs, Triston McKenzie gave up one run over six innings and the visiting Cleveland Guardians finished off a three-game sweep of the Colorado Rockies with a 4-2 victory on Thursday in Denver.
Emmanuel Clase recorded the final three outs to pick up his 14th save for Cleveland. The Guardians are now perfect after three games of a nine-game, three-city road trip and have won four consecutive games, along with seven of their last eight.
Brian Serven and Connor Joe each had four hits in the defeat, while Charlie Blackmon finished with two hits as Colorado lost for the fifth time in seven games.
Colorado’s Chad Kuhl (4-4) allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits and struck out seven in five innings. The Rockies’ home losing streak was extended to seven games.
A’s 4, Red Sox 3
Oakland salvaged the finale of a three-game set at Boston, scoring three times in the third inning on the way to the victory.
Ramon Laureano went 2-for-4 with a run to lead the A’s, who were outhit 11-8 but managed to win their first game in six tries against Boston this season. Christian Bethancourt added a two-run single.
J.D. Martinez went 3-for-5 and drove in a run to pace the Red Sox, while Jarren Duran and Jackie Bradley Jr. had two hits apiece.
Padres 6, Cubs 4
Joe Musgrove allowed two early runs and struck out a season-high nine over seven innings to remain undefeated and Manny Machado had three hits and an RBI as surging San Diego completed a four-game road sweep of reeling Chicago.
Nomar Mazara and Jurickson Profar each homered for the Padres, who outscored the Cubs 41-15 in the series. Chicago has lost a season-high 10 in a row, including six straight at home.
Musgrove (8-0) overcame some early struggles to continue this stellar season while giving up five hits and a walk for the Padres, who have won 11 of 14. Cubs rookie starter Matt Swarmer (1-2) went 3 2/3 innings and was charged with four runs on four hits and five walks. He struck out four.
Orioles 10, Blue Jays 2
Tyler Wells pitched six effective innings, Austin Hays hit a solo home run and Baltimore won at Toronto to gain a split of a four-game series.
Ryan Mountcastle, Rougned Odor and Tyler Nevin each had two RBIs for the Orioles, who scored six runs in the third inning. Cedric Mullins added three hits. Wells (4-4) allowed one run, five hits and a walk while striking out three.
Teoscar Hernandez hit a solo home run for the Blue Jays. Kevin Gausman (5-6) allowed seven runs (five earned), seven hits and one walk with three strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings.
Yankees 2, Rays 1
Anthony Rizzo homered with one out in the ninth inning and New York ran its home winning streak to 14 games with a victory over Tampa Bay.
Rizzo gave New York its eighth walk-off win when he lifted a 2-1 sinker from Shawn Armstrong (0-1) into the right-center-field seats. The Yankees posted their seventh straight win.
Michael King (4-1) pitched one scoreless inning for the victory, as four New York pitchers limited the Mariners to three hits. Francisco Mejia homered for Seattle.
Rangers 3, Tigers 1
Ezequiel Duran hit a bases-clearing triple with two outs in the ninth as visiting Texas rallied to defeat slumping Detroit.
The Rangers won the opener of a four-game series despite being limited to four hits. The Tigers lost their fifth straight, all at home.
Corey Seager led off the Texas ninth against Gregory Soto (2-4) with a walk. One out later, Kole Calhoun was hit by a pitch. A strikeout put the Tigers one out away from victory. Nathaniel Lowe then drew a walk before Duran unloaded the bases with his extra-base hit down the right field line.
Mets 5, Brewers 4
Nick Plummer recorded the tiebreaking RBI in the eighth inning for host New York, which overcame a three-run deficit to edge Milwaukee in the rubber game of a three-game series.
The Mets have won four of their past six games. The Brewers fell to 3-11 this month.
Both starting pitchers — Tylor Megill for the Mets and Aaron Ashby for the Brewers — left with injuries. Megill walked off with one out in the fourth due to right shoulder soreness and was scheduled to undergo testing Friday. Ashby departed with one out in the fifth with left forearm tightness. Milwaukee called his exit precautionary.
Phillies 10, Nationals 1
Kyle Schwarber smacked two homers and had three RBIs and Zach Wheeler pitched seven strong innings to help visiting Philadelphia rout Washington.
Yairo Munoz also homered while Nick Castellanos and Didi Gregorius each had two RBIs as the Phillies won for the 12th time in their past 14 games. Wheeler (6-3) gave up one run and four hits while winning his sixth straight decision.
Josh Bell homered for the Nationals, who have been outscored 41-13 during a five-game losing streak. Patrick Corbin (3-9) allowed nine runs in 3 1/3 innings, but the seven against him in the third inning were all unearned.
Angels 4, Mariners 1
Mike Trout hit a pair of two-run homers and Shohei Ohtani pitched six scoreless innings as Los Angeles won at Seattle in the opener of a five-game series.
Ohtani (5-4) walked two and struck out six. He went 2-for-4 at the plate. Raisel Iglesias tossed a scoreless ninth inning for his 13th save. It was just the third win in the past 21 games for the Angels.
The Mariners dropped to 2-5 on their 11-game homestand. Seattle rookie George Kirby (1-2) went six innings and allowed two runs on six hits with one walk and six strikeouts.
