The New York Mets acquired right-handed reliever Phil Maton from the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday in exchange for a player to be named later or cash.

Maton, 31, joins his fifth MLB club after signing with the Rays this past winter. In 40 games for the Rays, he compiled a 4.58 ERA, with a 1-2 record and two saves in four opportunities.

In 384 career games (including one start) for San Diego (2017-19), Cleveland (2019-21), Houston (2021-23) and Tampa Bay, Maton is 17-14 with a 4.28 ERA and four saves, as well as 12 blown saves. He has struck out 428 batters and walked 154 over 382 1/3 innings.

The Mets designated left-hander Joey Lucchesi for assignment in a corresponding move.

The 31-year-old Lucchesi pitched 4 1/3 innings in one start this season, giving up five runs on five hits and four walks for a 10.38 ERA in a loss to the Philadelphia Phillies.

Lucchesi is 23-25 with a 4.14 ERA in 80 games (76 starts) for the Padres (2018-20) and Mets (2021-24).
