Chicago Cubs right-hander Marcus Stroman exited Sunday’s 7-5 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals in London due to a blister on the index finger of his throwing hand.
Stroman was seen flexing his pitching hand after he yielded an RBI single to Paul Goldschmidt in the fourth inning. He had a brief conversation with Cubs trainers and manager David Ross before leaving the mound.
Michael Fulmer came into the game to replace Stroman, who allowed six runs (three earned) on eight hits in 3 1/3 innings.
Stroman, 32, took the loss and is 9-5 with a 2.47 ERA through 17 starts this season.
Stroman said the blister became an issue early in the outing, after it first developed while warming up, then got progressively worse. He has dealt with the issue in the past and is optimistic about making his next start on Saturday against the visiting Cleveland Indians.
