The St. Louis Cardinals placed right-hander Adam Wainwright on the COVID-19 injured list Friday, while the team activated left-hander Steven Matz from the bereavement list.

Wainwright tested positive, according to an MLB.com report, but the pitcher said he has no symptoms.

“Just so everyone knows, I feel great. 100%, with zero symptoms,” Wainwright wrote on Twitter. “Out of an abundance of caution and following MLB protocols I have to test negative twice before I can return. Which we’re hoping is very soon. Thanks for thinking about me!”

Wainwright, 40, is 3-3 with a 3.18 ERA in six starts this season. He just pitched seven one-hit innings in a victory over the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday. In 17 seasons, all with the Cardinals, Wainwright is 187-108 with a 3.35 ERA in 431 appearances (364 starts).

Matz, 30, last pitched Monday when he went six scoreless innings in a victory over the Royals. He is 3-1 with a 4.56 ERA in his first five starts as a member of the Cardinals, and over eight seasons with the New York Mets, Toronto Blue Jays and Cardinals he is 48-49 with a 4.25 ERA in 146 appearances (141 starts).
