The Toronto Blue Jays activated veteran starter Hyun-Jin Ryu and catcher Danny Jansen from the injured list in advance of Saturday’s road game against the Tampa Bay Rays.

To make room on the active roster, the Blue Jays optioned right-hander Trent Thornton and catcher Tyler Heineman to Triple-A Buffalo.

Ryu had been on the injured list since last month with elbow inflammation following his first two starts on the season. The 35-year old had a 13.50 ERA through his first 7 1/3 innings. Over nine seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers and Blue Jays, the left-hander is 73-45 with a 3.28 ERA in 171 appearances, all but one of which was a start.

Jansen, 27, was out with an oblique injury. He was 4-for-7 to open the season but played just three games. In his fifth season with Toronto, he is a career .215 hitter with 35 home runs and 101 RBIs in 254 games.

Thornton, 28, is 0-2 with a 3.52 ERA in 10 relief outings this season. Heineman, 30, hit .267 with one home run and four RBIs in 15 at-bats in his 10 games.
