Ryan McMahon and Brendan Rodgers had two hits apiece, Austin Gomber pitched strongly into the seventh inning, and the Colorado Rockies beat the Washington Nationals 5-2 in Denver on a chilly Wednesday night.

Connor Joe had a two-run triple and Daniel Bard pitched the ninth for his seventh save for Colorado.

Lane Thomas homered and Yadiel Hernandez and Cesar Hernandez had two hits apiece for Washington, which wasted a complete game from lefty Patrick Corbin.

The start of the game was delayed 25 minutes due to wet weather that moved through the Denver area on Wednesday. Temperatures were in the mid-40s for the game.

The Nationals, who won the first game of the series 10-2 on Monday night, went ahead in the third inning. Riley Adams led off with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Gomber struck out Alcides Escobar but Cesar Hernandez singled to drive in Adams to make it 1-0.

The Rockies answered in the fourth against Corbin. With one out, McMahon and Rodgers singled and Yonathan Daza reached on an error by Escobar in left field to load the bases. Jose Iglesias doubled to right field to drive in McMahon and Rodgers to give Colorado the lead and put runners on second and third.

Joe followed with a triple under the glove of a diving Escobar to make it 4-1, and then Joe scored on Charlie Blackmon’s sacrifice fly.

That was all the damage Corbin (0-5) allowed in registering an eight-inning complete game. He allowed five runs — three earned — on nine hits and didn’t walk a batter.

Thomas led off the top of the fifth with his first home run of the season.

Gomber got the first two outs of the seventh inning before walking Thomas on four pitches. He was relieved by Tyler Kinley, who got out of that inning.

Gomber (2-2) allowed two runs on seven hits and struck out six in his longest outing of the season.
