Shopify Rebellion captured the last two maps to edge FlyQuest 3-2 on Friday in the lower-bracket quarterfinal of the League of Legends’ League Championship Series Summer playoffs.
Trailing 2-1 in the series, Shopify Rebellion prevailed in 23 minutes on red and 25 minutes on blue to advance.
FlyQuest had opened with a 34-minute win on red before Shopify Rebellion responded with a 26-minute victory on red. FlyQuest moved back in front with a 29-minute triumph on red.
The United States’ Juan “Contractz” Garcia led Shopify Rebellion with a 23-13-22 kill-death-assist ratio. Turkey’s Ibrahim “GaKGoS” Bulut produced a 10-8-20 K-D-A ratio for FlyQuest.
Play continues Saturday with the lower-bracket semifinal, in which LYON will oppose Shopify Rebellion. The upper-bracket final, Cloud9 vs. Team Liquid, is scheduled for Sunday.
The LCS Summer Split is an eight-team event that began July 25 and will run through the grand final on Oct. 4. A seven-week round-robin regular season — in which all teams played each other once in a best-of-three match — set the field for the six-team playoffs.
The top two teams in the regular season — LYON and Team Liquid — advanced to the playoff semifinals, while the third- through sixth-place teams advanced to the quarters. The bottom two teams in the standings were eliminated.
The teams that claim the top three positions in the playoffs will qualify for the $5 million LoL World Championship, scheduled for Oct. 15-Nov. 14. The fourth- and fifth-place teams will receive spots in the $223,000 Demacia Cup Global Invitational, to be held Oct. 3-17 in China.
