Team Liquid plans to sign former Fnatic star Gabriel “Bwipo” Rau and return him to the top lane, according to a report by DOT Esports.
Team Liquid was mentioned as a potential destination when it was reported last month that Bwipo would leave Fnatic after four years when his contract expires this week.
Well-known for his play in the top lane, Bwipo transitioned to jungler for the 2021 LEC Summer Split. He also has experience in the mid lane and AD carry roles.
With Team Liquid, he will play alongside mid laner Soren “Bjergsen” Bjerg and bot laner Steven “Hans sama” Liv. According to the DOT Esports report, the team is planning to have Jo “CoreJJ” Yong-in in the starting lineup, Bill “Eyla” Nguyen could play in his spot while CoreJJ waits for his United States green card to be approved.
Due to Riot Games’ policy limiting the number of foreign players on a team to two, CoreJJ would not be able to play alongside Bwipo and Hans Sama.
Lucas “Santorin” Larsen may receive a contract extension offer to remain Team Liquid’s jungler, according to the report.
Bwipo has been with Fnatic since 2018, originally signing as a substitute before joining the starting lineup fulltime after Paul “sOAZ” Boyer’s departure following the 2018 World Championship.
Bwipo helped the team win two European LCS titles while reaching four Worlds, but rumors of his likely departure began to surface while Fnatic stumbled to a 1-5 record in Worlds 2021.
