LOL: Golden Guardians oust Evil Geniuses in LCS Spring playoffs

Golden Guardians cruised to a 3-0 win over Evil Geniuses on Friday in the lower-bracket semifinal of the League Championship Series Spring Split playoffs.

The result moves Golden Guardians into a lower-bracket final matchup against FlyQuest on April 8. The winner of that contest will oppose Cloud9 in the grand final on April 9.

On Friday, Golden Guardians downed Evil Geniuses in 33 minutes on red, in 24 minutes on red and in 33 minutes on blue.

The United States’ Trevor “Stixxay” Hayes led Golden Guardians with a 16-1-13 kill-death-assist ratio. Poland’s Kacper “Inspired” Sloma finished at 5-6-5 for Evil Geniuses.

The 10 teams in the top North American League of Legends circuit played every other team twice in the group phase. The first- through fourth-place teams then headed to the upper-bracket semifinals of the double-elimination playoffs. The fifth- and sixth-place teams entered the playoffs in the lower bracket.

The winner and runner-up in the playoff final will earn berths in the Mid-Season Invitational along with other teams from LoL leagues worldwide. The LCS Spring Split carries a $200,000 prize pool, with the champion earning $100,000.
