The trial is now underway where Johnny Depp, the defendant is suing Amber Heard for $50 million dollars claiming his former wife abused him. Her claims of abuse state she became a public figure representing domestic abuse she reported to the Washington Post in an op-ed piece. Many said she it would ruin her career.
Heard says that Depp had a lot of epic violent moments partly due to substance abuse of drug and alcohol . She said she was fearful of him.
In court her attorney said Depp was an obsessed ex-husband hellbent on revenge.
There are going to be a lot of witnesses in this high-profile celebrity trial. Many of the witnesses are famous celebrities, including Elon Musk.
Amber Heard’s attorney Benjamin Rottenborn of Woods Rogers told the jury, “Amber did suffer sexual violence at the hands of Depp,” “You will hear in the most graphic and horrifying terms about the violence that she suffered. You’ll hear that straight from her.”
The jury will eventually have to decide if Depp was defamed by the 2018 Washington Post editorial written by Amber Heard speaking about the violence received and supporting women who speak out about abuse. Heard never used Depp’s name in the article. Depp claims it defamed him and she was talking about him, when they were married. Depp was let go from his role in “Pirates of The Caribbean” after the op-ed came out.
Heard’s attorney said “He chose to bring Amber to court here in Virginia where she has no ties, has never lived, he’s never lived, where they never spent any time, because he wanted to make her life hard. He wanted to ruin her life. He wanted to destroy her.
Depp lost his former lawsuit in a British court and found The Sun newspaper which is owned by News Group Newspapers did not commit libel towards Depp by labeling him a “wife beater.”
