Indian businessman Gautam Adani surpasses Jeff Bezos in Billionaire Wealth as world’s second-richest person
The second-richest person in the world is no longer Jeff Bezos. The Indian businessman Gautam Adani, 60, who has rocketed up the wealth rankings—moving from 14th to second in just under 10 months—finally eclipsed the billionaire on Friday. Adani surpassed fellow Indian businessman Mukesh Ambani in February to take the title of richest person in Asia.
The billionaire has seen his net worth decline this year as Amazon shares fell more than 25 percent. According to Bloomberg, Bezos was valued at $145.8 billion on Friday morning, while Adani, who created the international company Adani Enterprises Limited, is now believed to be worth $146.9 billion. Adani now only has one individual ahead of him in terms of wealth worldwide.
Since tech entrepreneurs that have been from whit descent and long dominated Bloomberg’s list, a person from Asia has never placed so highly on the list.
Musk’s $260 billion is still much ahead of Adani’s $146.9 billion wealth, which is mostly comprised of the holdings of his enormous Adani Group conglomerate. The group owns and operates a variety of profitable enterprises, including ports and coal.
