Evil Geniuses needed just over an hour to sweep beastcoast 2-0 in a lower-bracket first-round match at the $500,000 Dota Pro Circuit Lima Major.

In other matches as lower-bracket play got underway, Team Aster edged Tundra Esports 2-1, and Team Spirit topped PSG.LGD 2-1.

The Lima Major is the first major of the Dota Pro Circuit 2023 season and the first DPC major ever held in South America. The 18-team event consists of four teams each from Western Europe and China, three each from Southeast Asia and Eastern Europe and two each from North America and South America.

A pair of nine-team groups held round-robin play last week, with all matches best-of-two. The top four teams from each group advanced to the upper bracket of the playoffs, and the fifth- and sixth-place teams in each group moved on to the lower bracket.

The grand final will take place on Sunday. It will be the only best-of-five match of the tournament. The winner will take home $200,000 and 400 DPC points. Second is worth $100,000 and 350 points.

On Wednesday, Evil Geniuses, playing both maps on red, downed beastcoast in 30 and 33 minutes.

Peru’s Jean “Chris Luck” Salazar led Evil Geniuses with a 13.5-1.5-12.5 kill-death-assist ratio. Another Peruvian, Hector “K1” Rodriguez, wound up at 4.0-5.0-2.5 for beastcoast.

Team Aster opened with a 35-minute win on red before Tundra Esports prevailed in 52 minutes on red. Aster sealed the series with a 49-minute victory on red.

Zhai “Xwy” Jingkai led Aster’s all-Chinese squad with a 7.0-3.7-3.7 K-D-A ratio. Slovakia’s Oliver “skiter” Lepko posted a 6.7-3.0-6.0 K-D-A ratio for Tundra.

Team Spirit, playing the full match on red against PSG.LGD, took the first map in 44 minutes, dropped the second in 40 minutes, then won the decisive third map in 30 minutes.

Ukraine’s Illya “Yatoro” Mulyarchuk amassed a 6.3-3.3-7.3 K-D-A ratio for Team Spirit. Malaysia’s Cheng “NothingToSay” Jin Xiang finished at 6.3-2.7-11.0 for PSG.LGD.
