It has been reported that after Will Smith slapped comedian Chris Rock the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Will Smith was asked to leave the Oscars. It was also reported that Will Smith refused to leave.
New information reported by TMZ says the opposite and that no one could decide on the issue if he should leave or not. TMZ sources said the producer of the show, Will Packer Smith did not have to leave. This entire event was before Will Smith took the Oscar for Best Actor in the movie “King Richard”.
Many took to Twitter to discuss and argue if Will Smith was right running up onstage, slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars about the GI Jane joke that upset Wills wife Jada Pickett Smith.
Under California law, the slap would result in a misdemeanor. If the tables were turned and a non- celebrity did the same thing, most likely security would have run up to the stage and the person may have been arrested and charged with battery and assault. Was this incident celebrity privilege at its best?
