CSGO: MongolZ, FURIA, Imperial advance at PGL Major Copenhagen

The MongolZ, FURIA Esports and Imperial Esports each recorded a victory on Wednesday to advance to the elimination stage of the PGL Major Copenhagen 2024 event in Denmark.

The MongolZ posted a 2-0 win over Legacy after notching a 13-9 victory on Ancient and 13-6 triumph on Anubis. Mongolia’s Ayush “mzinho” Batbold had a plus-12 kills-to-death differential and joined Garidmagnai “bLitz” Byambasuren in collecting 36 kills.

FURIA breezed to a 2-0 win over SAW after securing 13-7 victories in both Vertigo and Ancient. Gabriel “FalleN” Toledo led the all-Brazilian FURIA side with 45 kills and a plus-25 kills-to-death differential.

Imperial had a tougher time of it on Wednesday before recording a 2-1 win over GamerLegion. Imperial dropped a 16-12 decision on Overpass before responding with a 13-6 victory on Mirage and 13-5 triumph on Nuke. Joao “felps” Vasconcellos had 60 kills and fellow Brazilian Henrique “HEN1” Teles had a plus-19 kills-to-death differential.

Twenty-four teams began the Counter-Strike 2 tournament, 16 of which had to go through the opening stage. Eight will advance to the elimination stage to join another eight that have already qualified. For the opening stage, which ran up until Wednesday, play is conducted using the Swiss System format.

Matches in which elimination or advancement is on the line are best-of-three. All others are best-of-one. When moving on to the next round, teams don’t play an opponent that they have already faced.

Elimination-stage action starts on Thursday and runs through Sunday using the same format as the opening stage, the Swiss System, with best-of-three elimination and advancement matches and best-of-one matches in any other scenario.

Playoffs are scheduled for March 28-31. Eight teams will battle in a single-elimination bracket, where all matches are best-of-three.
