ATP: ATP roundup: Four seeded players fall in Stuttgart

Australia’s Nick Kyrgios rallied to beat fifth seed Nikoloz Basilashvili 6-7 (4), 6-4, 6-3 Thursday on a day of upsets during the second round of the BOSS Open in Stuttgart, Germany.

Kyrgios smashed 20 aces while committing just one double fault, besting Basilashvili’s 17 aces and four double faults.

Three other seeded players bowed out Thursday. Marton Fucsovics of Hungary outlasted Polish No. 3 seed Hubert Hurkacz 7-5, 6-7 (7), 6-3. Germany’s Oscar Otte upset Canadian No. 4 seed Denis Shapovalov 7-6 (6), 7-6 (4). And British star Andy Murray won again, 6-3, 7-6 (4) over Kazakh No. 7 seed Alexander Bublik.

In the quarterfinals, Murray will meet No. 1 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece, the only seeded player to have an easy day Thursday. He beat Swiss qualifier Dominic Stricker 6-3, 6-4.

Sixth seed Lorenzo Sonego of Italy finished off German wild card Jan-Lennard Struff 7-6 (2), 7-6 (4) after their match was interrupted Wednesday due to rain.

Libema Open

Dutch wild card Tim van Rijthoven pleased the home crowd by upsetting American third seed Taylor Fritz 6-7 (9), 7-5, 6-4 in the second round of the grass-court event in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands.

Fourth seed Alex de Minaur of Australia also went down, with Frenchman Adrian Mannarino taking their match 6-2, 6-3.

Russian No. 1 seed Daniil Medvedev defeated French qualifier Gilles Simon 7-5, 6-4, and Canadian second seed Felix Auger-Aliassime won a pair of tiebreakers to clinch a 7-6 (2), 7-6 (5) win over Tallon Griekspoor of the Netherlands.

Fifth seed Karen Khachanov of Russia, Ilya Ivashka of Belarus and Brandon Nakashima of the U.S. also won their matches.
