Ethan Quinn handily defeated France’s Valentin Royer 6-4, 6-3 in the first round of the Vanda Pharmaceuticals Mallorca Championships on Monday in Mallorca, Spain.

Quinn, a 22-year-old from California ranked 63rd in the world, won 82.4% of first-serve points (28 of 34).

In other Round of 32 matches, Australian Adam Walton defeated countryman Nick Kyrgios 6-3, 6-4, and Abdullah Shelbayh of Jordan upset French sixth seed Corentin Moutet 7-5, 6-4. Hungarian Fabian Marozsan rallied to defeat Slovakian qualifier Alex Molcan 2-6, 7-6 (10), 7-6 (5), saving three match points and 9 of 11 break points.

Serbia’s Miomir Kecmanovic beat France’s Antoine Ghibaudo 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (6), and Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff topped Spain’s Martin Landaluce 6-3, 1-6, 7-5.

Lexus Eastbourne Open

Belgium’s Zizou Bergs defeated No. 7 seed Jaume Munar of Spain 6-2, 6-4 while Argentina’s Juan Manuel Cerundolo, the No. 8 seed, beat Belgium’s Raphael Collignon 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (5) in the United Kingdom.

Great Britain’s Jan Choinski bounced back from a first-set loss to defeat Alexei Popyrin of Australia 1-6, 6-2, 6-2, while Canada’s Gabriel Diallo had his hands full with France’s Terence Atmane, winning 6-7 (7), 6-4, 7-5.

Meanwhile, a pair of Brits won their matches as Jack Draper dispatched Marcos Giron 6-4, 7-6 (5) and Jack Pinnington Jones downed Marco Trungelliti of Argentina 5-7, 6-3, 7-5.
