The New York Yankees placed infielder DJ LeMahieu on the 10-day injured list on Sunday with a right sports hernia.

The move is retroactive to Friday.

“We’ll see how the next week unfolds, if we get to an (American League Championship Series) situation we’ll see if he’s in play at that point,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said.

LeMahieu, 33, is batting .268 with 10 homers and 57 RBIs in 150 games this season.

A two-time batting champion, three-time Gold Glove winner and three-time All-Star, LeMahieu has played 1,300 career games with the Chicago Cubs (2011), Colorado Rockies (2012-18) and Yankees. He has a career batting average of .300.

In a corresponding move, the Yankees recalled right-hander Luis Gil from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Gil, 23, is 1-1 with a 3.07 ERA in six starts for the Yankees this season.

The Yankees also transferred first baseman Luke Voit (left knee inflammation) to the 60-day injured list and selected the contract of right-hander Brody Koerner, optioning him to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Voit, 30, batted .239 with 11 homers and 35 RBIs in 68 games this season.

Koerner, 27, made his first two appearances in the majors in August, allowing one run on two hits in three innings of work.
