Portland Timbers midfielder David Ayala will have season-ending surgery to repair a torn ACL, the team confirmed Tuesday.

Ayala, 20, sustained the injury to his left knee in Saturday’s 2-1 win against St. Louis City SC.

His reconstructive surgery will be performed by Dr. Richard Edelson on Monday in Portland, Ore. Ayala is looking at a rehab period of about nine months.

Ayala started three of his four matches this season and has appeared in 25 games (11 starts) since joining the Timbers on Feb. 1, 2022.
