Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson confirmed that the club will “respect” midfielder Elliot Lee’s desire to explore his options during the January transfer window.

A fan favorite as Wrexham earned three consecutive promotions over the past three seasons, Lee has not made an appearance in the Championship this season. That has followed the signings of Nathan Broadhead and Josh Windass, while Lee has also been recovering from November knee surgery, only recently returned to training.

“Elliot’s had a good week and a half of training and wants to go on loan and get some game time, so we respect that,” Parkinson said. “There was a club which was very close to agreeing a deal and they’ve gone elsewhere for a different profile of player, but I’m sure there’ll be other clubs looking at Elliot.”

Lee is under contract through the summer of 2027.

Elliot, 31, joined Wrexham as a free agent in July 2022, going on to score 41 goals over 149 appearances for the club. He has been with the Red Dragons during their promotion journey from the National League to League Two, League One and now the Championship.

Wrexham has parted ways with several players who made enormous contributions during the club’s rise. That includes Paul Mullin, who recently returned to the Welsh side after his loan with League One’s Wigan Athletic ended early to begin the new year.

The striker with 110 career goals for Wrexham appeared in a friendly against Liverpool Under-21s this week, but Parkinson would not commit to whether Mullin will continue with the club. Since he has not made an appearance for Wrexham this season, Mullin remains eligible to leave on loan. He is also under contract until the summer of 2027.

“With Mulls, he needed the game on Tuesday because he hadn’t had a lot of starts recently,” Parkinson said. “He’s trained well and played well on Tuesday. It’s that situation where we need to find the right route for him from now until the end of the season and we’re just working with him on that.”

Wrexham current sits ninth in the Championship standings, one point out of a playoff spot.
