Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes will become a part owner of a third sports franchise in Kansas City.

Mahomes is joining his wife, Brittany, as part of the ownership group of the Kansas City Current, the National Women’s Soccer League team announced Tuesday. Brittany Mahomes already was part of the ownership group alongside Angie and Chris Long.

The Current didn’t disclose Mahomes’ financial investment or how much stake he holds in the team.

“I am thankful for the chance to join (Brittany) as part of the (Current) ownership team,” Patrick Mahomes wrote on Twitter. “She and the Longs have done an incredible job building a world-class organization and I am excited to join another championship-caliber club as it continues to make history.

“Patrick is obviously a once-in-a-generation athlete and someone who has had an immeasurable impact on the Kansas City community,” the Longs said in a statement. “Working with Brittany has been a blessing. We are elated to now partner with Patrick too. The Mahomes are truly a remarkable family.”

Patrick Mahomes, 27, becomes the first active NFL player to have an ownership stake in an NWSL franchise.

He is a part owner with the Kansas City Royals. He also joined the Sporting Kansas City ownership group in 2021.
