Michelle Cooper scored late in the first half as the visiting Kansas City Current extended its unbeaten streak to 12 games with a 2-0 victory over struggling Bay FC on Saturday night in San Jose, Calif.

Temwa Chawinga added her 12th goal in the final minutes of the second half after stealing the ball near midfield.

The Current (16-2-1, 49 points), notched its league-record seventh straight shutout and matched the team record for single-season wins. Kansas City improved to 11-0-1 since a 1-0 loss to the Seattle Reign on May 2, producing a season-high 22 shots, 10 of them on target.

Kansas City finally broke through in the 45th minute when Cooper scored her fifth goal and first since June 14.

On a transition play, Cooper took a pass from Hailie Mace and moved down the left side toward the end line. After making a move around Bay FC defender Maddie Moreau, Cooper tucked a shot inside the left post.

Before Cooper’s goal, Debinha had missed the net in the eighth minute and was denied on a header two minutes later. Bay FC goaltender Jordan Silkowitz then kept the game scoreless by making a right leg save on Chawinga in the 12th minute.

In the 22nd, Silkowitz moved to the center of the goal to deny Bia Zaneratto, and four minutes later, Chawinga was stopped again.

Kansas City goalie Laurel Ivory made her lone save early in the second half by stopping Racheal Kundananji from more than 35 yards out.

Bay City (4-10-5, 17 points) attempted seven shots and dropped to 0-6-2 since beating Portland on June 7.
