Logan Couture’s early-third-period goal was the game-winning tally and sparked a three-goal period that gave the visiting San Jose Sharks a 4-1 victory over the Calgary Flames on Tuesday.

Alexander Barabanov, Tomas Hertl and Jonathan Dahlen also scored for the Sharks, who snapped a two-game skid. Goaltender Adin Hill, who grew up in Calgary and played both minor and junior hockey in the city en route to the NHL, made 37 saves.

San Jose’s Brent Burns collected two assists for his second consecutive game, and he is riding a five-game point streak in which he has collected one goal and seven assists.

With the score tied 1-1, Couture’s sharp-angled shot ricocheted off the stick of Flames defenseman Nikita Zadorov and into the cage at 4:18 of the final frame for his fifth goal of the campaign.

The Sharks were outshot 27-12 through the first two periods, although they were much better in the final frame, which was rewarded when Hertl iced the game with 63 seconds remaining. Hertl’s empty-net goal was his sixth tally of the campaign.

Dahlen added another empty-netter 22 seconds later.

Andrew Mangiapane scored for the Flames, who took their first regulation-time loss since their season opener — snapping a 10-game stretch in which they were 7-0-3. Goalie Jacob Markstrom stopped 22 shots.

After an uneventful, scoreless first period, Barabanov opened the scoring 47 seconds into the second period. From beside his own net, Burns sent a breakaway pass to Barabanov at the Calgary blueline, and the winger neatly tucked home a deke for his first goal of the season. Hill recorded his first NHL point with an assist on the tally.

Mangiapane replied with his team-high eighth goal of the campaign 30 seconds later. Amid a scramble in the offensive zone, the forward jammed and jammed at a loose puck in the crease before finally pushing it past the line.
