Pittsburgh goaltender Tristan Jarry is expected to miss the start of the Penguins’ Eastern Conference first-round series against the New York Rangers, coach Mike Sullivan announced Sunday.

Sullivan labeled both Jarry and forward Jason Zucker as day-to-day as they deal with their respective injuries. Game 1 is Tuesday night in New York.

Jarry hasn’t played since sustaining a lower-body injury in Pittsburgh’s win over the New York Islanders on April 14, while Zucker suffered an undisclosed injury in the Penguins’ loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday.

“We don’t expect to have them for the first couple of games, I will say that,” Sullivan said. “But their status right now is day-to-day. We’ll update you guys as we go.”

Casey DeSmith, 30, is expected to start in net for the series opener. He was 11-6-5 this season with a 2.79 goals-against average, a .914 save percentage and three shutouts in 26 games (24 starts).

Jarry, 27, enjoyed a career season, setting personal bests in wins (34), GAA (2.42) and shutouts (four).

Zucker, 30, registered 17 points (eight goals, nine assists) in 41 games this season.
