Kirill Kaprizov produced a goal and an assist Friday night as the Minnesota Wild defeated the New York Islanders 5-2 in Elmont, N.Y.

Vincent Hinostroza, Danila Yurov, Brock Faber and Marco Rossi also scored for the Wild. Jesper Wallstedt made 25 saves to improve to 2-0-2 on the season.

The Wild lost to the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday to open the two-game road trip but have won three of their past four.

Emil Heineman and Jean-Gabriel Pageau scored for the Islanders, who have lost two in a row (0-1-1). David Rittich stopped 21 shots.

Hinostroza opened the scoring at 7:24 of the first period on Minnesota’s first shot of the game, converting Jonas Brodin’s diagonal pass with a backdoor tap-in on the glove side. Marcus Johansson did the early work to get the puck to Brodin.

Until the goal, the Islanders had a 5-0 edge in shots on goal with the help of an early power play.

The lead was 2-0 after Yurov snapped in a 7-footer at 12:32 of the first. Leading up to the goal, the Wild took a few hacks at the puck following a dump-in and Yakov Trenin worked the puck in front.

The Islanders scored against the flow of play at 4:38 of the second period when unchecked Heineman completed a crisp passing play with Bo Horvat and Mathew Barzal.

Minnesota had a quick reply from Faber at 5:56 of the middle period. He intercepted a clearing attempt with his glove and fired a 34-footer through traffic to restore the two-goal margin.

The Islanders were caught pressing when Kaprizov’s long stretch pass sprung Rossi, who boosted the gap to 4-1 at 9:05 of the second.

Pageau cut the lead to two at 18:51 of the second. He took Anders Lee’s stretch pass approaching the Wild blue line and waited before lifting a sharp-angled shot into the net.

Kaprizov scored at 8:33 of the third period on a slap shot on a give-and-go with Mats Zuccarello, increasing the margin to three.

Zuccarello played for the first time since undergoing offseason surgery to address a lower-body injury.
