Hurricanes center Mark Jankowski sustained an undisclosed injury in Game 1 of Carolina’s Eastern Conference second-round matchup versus the Washington Capitals and will not return.

Jankowski, appearing in his third game of this year’s Stanley Cup playoffs, was last on the ice with 4:42 remaining in the second period.

The Hurricanes acquired the 30-year-old from Nashville prior to the trade deadline for a fifth-round pick in the upcoming NHL draft. The former first-round pick scored eight goals in 19 regular-season games for Carolina. He had an assist in the Hurricanes’ Game 5 win over New Jersey last Tuesday that clinched the first-round series.
