NHL: David Kampf helps Maple Leafs outlast Senators

David Kampf scored the go-ahead goal in the second period and the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Ottawa Senators 4-3 on Thursday night.

Mitchell Marner, Calle Jarnkrok and William Nylander also scored for the Maple Leafs. Jake McCabe and TJ Brodie each added two assists.

Joseph Woll, making his fifth straight start, had a strong game, stopping 29 shots before being injured while making a save in the third period. Martin Jones took over and made nine saves.

Josh Norris, Jacob Bernard-Docker and Claude Giroux scored for the Senators.

Anton Forsberg made 18 saves for the Senators, who had won their two previous games.

Norris scored his sixth goal of the season at 19:34 of the first period on a breakaway. Jakob Chychrun made the pass to spring Norris.

The Senators played a strong first period and Woll needed to make some good saves. Ottawa had a 16-8 advantage in shots on goal in the opening period.

Marner scored his ninth goal of the season at 1:42 of the second period. Morgan Rielly’s pass put Marner in the clear. Brodie also earned an assist.

Toronto’s Auston Matthews hit the crossbar with a 26-foot shot at 6:57 of the second.

Woll stopped Mathieu Joseph on a breakaway at 15 minutes of the second.

Kampf scored his second goal of the season at 17:40 of the second when the puck trickled past Forsberg during a scramble in front of the net. John Tavares and McCabe picked up assists.

Ottawa had a 24-13 advantage in shots on goal after two periods.

Jarnkrok scored his sixth goal of the season at 3:35 of the third period at the end of an odd-man rush.

Bernard-Docker scored his first career NHL goal on a 63-foot slap shot at 5:14 of the third.

Nylander scored his 13th goal at 13:03 of the third.

With Forsberg out for an extra attacker, Giroux scored his eighth goal at 18:07 of the third.

Ottawa went on a power play in the final minute.
