Montreal Canadiens forward Kirby Dach will require surgery on his right knee and miss the rest of the regular season, the team said Tuesday.

Dach, 22, suffered a torn ACL and MCL during the first period of the Canadiens’ 3-2 win over the Chicago Blackhawks in Montreal’s home opener on Saturday. Dach, who was selected third overall in the 2019 draft by the Blackhawks, was injured when he was checked by Chicago defenseman Jarred Tinordi.

Dach, who was the Canadiens’ second-line center behind Nick Suzuki, missed 24 games late last season, his first with Montreal, due to multiple injuries. Despite the injuries, Dach finished with 14 goals and 24 assists in 58 games.

Dach played his first three seasons in the NHL with the Blackhawks before being traded to the Canadiens. He finished this season with two assists in two games.
