NHL: Cam Atkinson’s two goals highlight Flyers’ win over Bruins

Cam Atkinson scored two goals to lift the host Philadelphia Flyers past the Boston Bruins 6-3 on Wednesday.

Joel Farabee and Sean Couturier added a goal and an assist apiece for the Flyers, who won their second in a row.

Scott Laughton and Travis Konecny each had one goal and Derick Brassard contributed two assists. Keith Yandle also had two assists.

Flyers goaltender Martin Jones made 37 saves in his team debut. Carter Hart started the first two games for Philadelphia.

Karson Kuhlman, Taylor Hall and Brad Marchand each scored for the Bruins.

Charlie McAvoy chipped in with two assists, while Bdruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman stopped 19 shots.

The Flyers went ahead 1-0 at 8:08 of the first period when they took advantage of a two-on-one break as Atkinson scored.

The Bruins tied the game at 1 at 16:48 when the puck glanced off Philadelphia defenseman Travis Sanheim and Kuhlman scored directly in front of Jones.

Farabee connected on the power play with only 8.9 seconds remaining in the first for a 2-1 Philadelphia lead.

After an initial shot was saved by Swayman, Laughton pounced on the rebound for a 3-1 Flyers advantage at 1:58 of the second.

The Bruins closed within 3-2 at 8:38 when Hall skated in all alone and shot the puck over Jones’ glove. Marchand drew Boston even at 3 with 59.4 seconds left in the second when he found a loose puck and scored.

The Flyers moved back in front 4-3 just 58 seconds into the third as Atkinson fired a shot into the net while being checked to the ice. Konecny’s wrist shot at 11:17 extended Philadelphia’s lead to 5-3.

Philadelphia’s sixth goal, by Couturier, came on the power play into an empty net with 58.2 seconds left.
