The Colorado Avalanche added to their stacked roster by acquiring forward Artturi Lehkonen from the Montreal Canadiens and forward Andrew Cogliano from the San Jose Sharks on Monday before the NHL trade deadline.
The Avalanche received Lehkonen in exchange for Justin Barron and a second-round draft pick in 2024. They sent San Jose a 2024 fifth-round draft pick to land Cogliano.
Lehkonen, 26, has 29 points (13 goals, 16 assists) in 58 games this season. He was selected in the second round of the 2013 draft by Montreal and has 74 career goals to go with 75 assists in five-plus seasons with the franchise.
Lehkonen joins winger Tyler Toffoli and blueliner Ben Chiarot as players who have been traded away by the Canadiens.
Barron, 20, was Colorado’s first-round pick (No. 25 overall) in the 2020 draft. He’s appeared in just two NHL games this season and in 43 with the Colorado Eagles of the American Hockey League, tallying 20 points (five goals, 15 assists).
Cogliano, 34, joins his fifth NHL team and could provide the Avs some depth scoring. In 15 NHL seasons, Cogliano has amassed 425 points (174 goals and 251 assists) for Edmonton, Anaheim, Dallas and San Jose. He had four goals and 11 assists over 56 appearances in his only season with the Sharks.
Colorado leads the race for the Presidents Cup with 93 points entering Monday. It added Lehkonen and Cogliano a week after acquiring defensemen Josh Manson and forward Nico Sturm in its quest to make a Stanley Cup run.
