The Miami Dolphins are adding veteran NFL assistant coach Darrell Bevell as their quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator, NFL Network reported Wednesday.

Bevell, 52, will be charged with helping new head coach Mike McDaniel and offensive coordinator Frank Smith accelerate the performance of third-year quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

Bevell was the offensive coordinator for the Jacksonville Jaguars to start the 2021 season but finished it as interim head coach after Urban Meyer was fired. He also served as interim coach in Detroit after the Lions fired Matt Patricia in 2020.

He began his career in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers in 2000 as assistant quarterbacks coach, then was promoted to quarterbacks coach. He also was the offensive coordinator with the Minnesota Vikings (2006-10) and Seattle Seahawks (2011-17) before serving in the same capacity with the Lions (2019-20).
