After sitting out the majority of the preseason with a foot injury, Green Bay wide receiver Jayden Reed sustained a broken collarbone during the Packers’ 27-18 home win over the Washington Commanders on Thursday night.

Following the game, Packers coach Matt LaFleur told reporters that the third-year slot receiver “is going to miss a lot of time,” but added that he believes Reed has a chance to come back before the season ends.

ESPN reported Friday that Reed is scheduled for surgery early next week with the possibility of a November return.

Already without Christian Watson (ACL) until at least Week 6, the Packers will rely on Romeo Doubs, Dontayvion Wicks and rookie Matthew Golden at the wide receiver position. The team also has receivers Mecole Hardman, Will Sheppard and Isaiah Neyor on its practice squad.

In the first quarter on Thursday, Reed got hurt while extending to make a 39-yard reception that appeared to put the Packers on the board first. However, rookie right tackle Anthony Belton was flagged for holding, negating the touchdown.

Reed, 25, played just 18 snaps in Green Bay’s season-opening win over the Detroit Lions on Sunday, but he had a team-high three catches, including a 17-yard score. He didn’t record a catch on Thursday before exiting.

A second-round pick of the Packers in the 2023 draft, Reed has 122 career receptions for 1,695 yards and 15 touchdowns.
