New York Jets quarterback Mike White was forced out of Thursday night’s game against the Indianapolis Colts due to a right forearm injury sustained during the first quarter.

The team said White was questionable to return.

White was replaced by journeyman Josh Johnson when the Jets began a drive with 13:24 remaining in the first half.

White took a hit from Colts defensive end DeForest Buckner during a drive in which he threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Elijah Moore. He was examined by team doctors on the sidelined and grimaced as his wrist and forearm was squeezed.

He attempted to warm up a short time later and was unable to throw the football effectively. White completed 7 of 11 passes for 95 yards before departing.

White was making his second career start in place of injured Zach Wilson (knee). White passed for 405 yards and three touchdowns in last Sunday’s 34-31 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. He joined Cam Newton as the only players in NFL history to throw for 400 yards or more in their first career starts.

Johnson’s appearance was his 35th of an NFL career that began when he was a fifth-round draft pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2008. He has played in NFL games for five different teams and entered Thursday with eight touchdown passes and 14 interceptions.
