The New York Giants went shopping for Saquon Barkley insurance and signed running back James Robinson.

Robinson, 24, was undrafted in 2020 and crashed the starting lineup for the Jacksonville Jaguars, rushing for 1,070 yards and catching 49 passes.

Robinson signed on the same day head coach Brian Daboll reunited with former Bills slot receiver Cole Beasley, who joined the Giants on Friday on a one-year deal.

Robinson finished last season with the New York Jets. He has 32 starts in three seasons with 2,262 rushing yards on 514 attempts (4.4-yard average) and 18 touchdowns, plus 91 receptions for 617 yards and five TD grabs.

Barkley hasn’t signed his one-year, $10.1 million tender and threatened not to report. Barkley was slapped with the franchise tag and the two sides couldn’t reach agreement on a long-term deal last week.

Daboll was offensive coordinator for the Bills when Beasley, 34, played for the team.

Beasley returns to the NFC East after playing his first seven seasons with Dallas (2012-18). He split last season with the Bills and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, catching six passes in four games.

He has 556 catches for 5,744 yards and 34 TDs in 153 games (51 starts).
