NCAAB: Will Richardson scores 25 points to lead Oregon past Utah

Will Richardson made five 3-pointers and scored 25 points to lead red-hot Oregon to an 80-77 victory over Utah in Pac-12 play on Saturday night at Salt Lake City.

Jacob Young added 14 points and De’Vion Harmon contributed 12 points, six assists and three steals as the Ducks (15-7, 8-3 Pac-12) won their third straight game and ninth in the past 10 outings.

Quincy Guerrier had 11 points and Eric Williams Jr. collected 10 rebounds as Oregon improved to 21-2 against Utah during coach Dana Altman’s 12-season tenure.

Gabe Madsen matched his career best of five 3-pointers while scoring 19 points for the Utes (9-15, 2-12), who lost for the 11th time in their past 12 games.

Marco Anthony contributed 15 points and 12 rebounds, Rollie Worster had 13 points, six rebounds and six assists and Branden Carlson had 11 points for Utah.

The Utes recovered from a 15-point deficit to pull within one. Young broke free down the court to grab a long in-bounds pass and lay in a basket to give the Ducks a three-point lead with 4.5 seconds to go.

Eli Ballstaedt’s last-second 3-pointer was off the mark for the Utes.

Oregon shot 43.9 percent from the field, including 13 of 26 from 3-point range.

The Utes made 41.5 percent of their shots and were 8 of 28 from behind the arc.

Utah trailed by 14 with 5:26 left before making a frantic charge.

Anthony scored consecutive hoops and Madsen knocked down a 3-pointer to bring Utah within seven with 3:40 remaining.

Richardson buried a 3-pointer with 2:41 left to give the Ducks a 74-64 lead but Madsen scored five straight points and Worster recorded a steal and layup as Utah moved within 74-71 with 1:06 left.

Williams sank two free throws to put Oregon ahead by five with 1:01 remaining before Utah’s Both Gach scored on a putback with 32.2 seconds to play and Anthony made two free throws to make it a one-point game with 21.4 seconds remaining.

Utah trailed by 12 at halftime but scored eight of the first 11 points in the second half to pull within 46-39 with 16:40 remaining.

Riley Battin’s three-point play cut the Utes’ deficit to 56-52 with 10:50 left.

The Ducks responded as Guerrier and Richardson made 3-pointers during a 9-1 burst that pushed the lead to 65-53 with 8:48 left.

Three-plus minutes later, Guerrier drained another trey to give Oregon a 71-57 lead.

Richardson scored 15 first-half points as Oregon held a 43-31 advantage at the break.
