UCLA added a fifth freshman to its 2023 recruiting class with the signing of Slovenian guard Jan Vide.

A 6-foot-6 combo guard, Vide was MVP of the 2023 Adidas Next Generation Tournament in Kaunas, Lithuania, last month.

He averaged 19.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game in the event.

“He has shown that he can handle the ball and excel in the pick and roll at a very high level,” UCLA coach Mick Cronin said in a school-issued statement. “He’s been very well-known and highly regarded on the international basketball scene, having won multiple awards in European competition. Jan brings great toughness and talent to the table. He is a great young man with a tremendous future. He’s going to be able to play multiple positions for us. Certainly, he can help us score the ball and can create for others. We are very excited than Jan has chosen to come to Westwood and be a Bruin.”

In 2022, Vide averaged 20.1 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game for Slovenia at the 2022 U17 FIBA World Cup in Spain.
