Trevor Keels scored 18 points to lead six Duke players in double figures in a 92-52 romp past Gardner-Webb on Tuesday night in Durham, N.C., after the No. 7 Blue Devils dealt with an off-court issue earlier in the day.

Star freshman Paolo Banchero was involved in a legal matter, but he was in the starting lineup and scored a season-low 10 points to go with a game-high eight rebounds.

Duke (4-0) was never threatened by the in-state opponent.

It was a hectic day for the Duke program. In the morning, news broke that Banchero, the Preseason Player of the Year in the Atlantic Coast Conference, had been charged with aiding and abetting a DWI during the weekend.

The alleged driver of the vehicle was Michael Savarino, who joined the program as a walk-on and is coach Mike Krzyzewski’s grandson. Savarino, 20, was charged with driving while impaired, driving after consuming while under the age of 21 and a stop-sign violation.

Banchero faces a charge of aiding and abetting DWI.

Wendell Moore Jr. poured in 14 points, Mark Williams had 13 points, reserve Joey Baker tacked on 12 points and Jeremy Roach provided 10 points for Duke, which won its third home game in a five-night span.

Savarino didn’t play.

The Blue Devils made 10 of 22 shots from 3-point territory. They received six assists from Roach. Keels and Moore both shot 6-for-9 from the field.

Lance Terry had 15 points and Kareem Reid scored 14 points for Gardner-Webb (0-3), which fell to nationally ranked Arkansas in its previous game.

The Runnin’ Bulldogs made just two of their 16 shots from 3-point range on Tuesday. They were charged with 17 turnovers.

Duke led 47-27 at halftime. By game’s end, the Blue Devils held a 41-28 rebounding edge.

Duke has won the three all-time meetings with Gardner-Webb.
